It's been established through conversations on Discord that the cartridge PRG-RAM already contains valid save data and can be accessed just fine on other systems. The game indeed only shows the animated logo once save data has been created. It's been a while since I've last booted my own copy, but I'm pretty sure you can only save in the town inn once the introductory sequence has been completed.
